Often times the availability of these materials is what makes them popular among today's youth. Movies are no exception to this rule; in fact I caught myself watching movies more often than playing video games. The story usually depends on which movie you watch; it could be about aliens or even about an alien that gets captured by other beings that enslave him for his "superior" knowledge. It also doesn't take into account how different perspectives effect these flicks. "Avatar" for example, has a whole different type of perspective when you are reading the book, "Ender's Game" is much more special in its perspective when you are reading it in its original form. As powerful as these books are, there are other greater types of media that impact the lives of people each day. One set of media that I come across constantly is video games and movies. The same way movies and games impact the modern age, movies and games can also be influential to others. One of my favorite movies of all time is one that not only had an amazing concept but was very influential to my life: "The Iron Giant". This movie is about an alien robot that was sent to earth by accident after another alien ship got shot down. The robot was sent to earth for safety and also because he had to find out about the humans, but never hurt them; after meeting Hogarth, the little boy who found him, he began developing feelings towards humanity and its kind from the boy. This movie is not only a good representation of our society today but it's also a way of showing yourself as a person. It shows what happens when you have no one else but yourself. In this case, the giant has no voice so even though he had feelings for everything on earth, still had nothing without someone else that could help him express those feelings. As the movie progresses, the giant becomes an apart of Hogarth's family and he begins to learn things about life and what it means to be part of a community. A lot like the giant, we all have feelings for others but without our own voice, we can't express what we feel. Being part of a community is more than just having an impact on others; it is also about how you can help shape your community into what you see. At the end of the movie, Hogarth ends up having to save the world because he has realized that he has more capability than he thought and that his feelings towards humanity has grown. He is able to save the world's population by telling the giant to destroy the enemies that are threatening their way of life. With all these things in mind, this movie shows how much impact you can have on others without even knowing it because of how easily your feelings can be influenced. As I said earlier, you don't need to be in the real world to make an impact; after all, everything starts with an idea. The movie "The Iron Giant" is a great representation of how much impact your voice could have on people.
